New 3.3 V, 15 MBd Device Features Three Forward, One Reverse Channel in Thin SOIC Package for Reduced Parts Count, Board Space and System Cost
Avago Technologies today expanded its industry-first family of 3.3 V, 15 MBd, multi-channel and bi-directional digital optocouplers to include a bi-directional quad version. The Avago ACSL-6410 allows customers to reduce parts count, board space and system Costs in a wide range of consumer, computing, communications and industrial applications. It features three forward channels and one reverse channel in a compact (9.9 mm x 5.9 mm x 1.7 mm), 16-pin thin SOIC package.
Avagos patented manufacturing technology for stacking LEDs provided the integration breakthrough necessary to develop multi-channel optocouplers. The integration of multiple optocouplers is achieved through stacking LED die and an insulating layer on a silicon substrate.
Avagos ACSL-6410 multi-channel optocoupler is an excellent choice for a wide range of multi-directional or bi-directional applications:
-- Computer parallel interfaces and serial interfaces such as RS232/485/422, SPI (serial peripheral interface), and Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C) bus
-- Microprocessor system interfaces

The Avago ACSL-6410 also provides the benefits of reduced part count and board space for Fieldbus interfaces and medical systems for PLC (programmable logic controllers), and a wide range of industrial and test and measurement applications.
Avago plans to expand the ACSL family with additional uni-directional and bi-directional channel combinations, said Chong Tze Siong, vice president and general manager for Avago Technologies Optical Communication Solutions Division. These different channel configurations will enable ease of design and cost savings.
Avagos ACSL-6xx0 series optocouplers perform at a typical operating speed of 15 MBd. These devices exhibit high common-mode rejection of 10 kV/ microsecond minimum and operate from 3.0 V to 5.5 V supply voltages with an operating temperature range of -40 C to +100 C. They are designed to meet the most widely accepted international safety regulations: UL1577 (2500 Vrms), CSA Component Acceptance Notice No. 5, and IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-2.
